It is hard to imagine that Disney’s Animal Kingdom is 20 years old. Today Sandy and I went to what is becoming our favorite amongst the Florida theme parks. A few months ago I wrote about our visit to Beautiful Pandora. (Click or tap the link to read that entry.)
This time we visited Asia and Africa. Let’s digress… Animal Kingdom is huge. Most Disney parks take more than 1 day to truly experience. Today was the most people we have seen since Christmas Day a few years ago, so we chose quality over quantity and made no effort to explore the whole park.
Lunch is not for the person with a thin wallet. My $15 Kobe burger with fries was actually quite good with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and an authentic asian pickle. Sandy’s $11 honey chicken was excellent with tender white meat, nicely seasoned. No one ever said a good lunch in a theme park is cheap. We got a nice, outdoor table nestled between some lovely plants and the “market” that touts brass pots. We took our time and enjoyed watching people.
After a bit of shopping came a difficult decision. Left past the soft serve ice cream truck toward Expedition Everest or right past the Dole Whip stand at the edge of Harambe in Africa. We have good soft serve near home, so Africa it was. After a stop for more hydration, we decided to work our way toward the exit. I’d pushed myself much of the time, and there is only so much energy for my MS and me to share.
The vegetation was beautiful, of course, but the spring greens were at peak today. Orchids, as well. Next time we might be well rested and go in the evening. And where will be eat dinner? Starbucks for a turkey sandwich? Maybe. You never know.
Thank you for stopping by. I am so thankful when you do. It was a fun day, and I’m glad Sandy and I got to share it with you. By the way, the temperature reached 88 degrees (31 degrees Celsius). It was definitely warm.
Photos: Top photo is a green sign reading Disney’s Animal Kingdom with a large number 20 to the left. Second photo is the side of a building with a sign reading Brass Pots, an old light fixture, and 3 well worn brass pots. Third photo is the required selfie with George and Sandy. George is wearing a large, straw hat, sunglasses, and green V-neck tee. Sandy has her long hair down and is wearing sunglasses and a striped top. Fourth picture is an area of greenery featuring orchids with yellow flowers.
I am so happy to hear about your fun visit to Animal Kingdom! My husband and I went there during our 2nd anniversary and I fell in love with that place. Food is definitely over priced, but the animals made it worth it!!!

Theme park food in general is pricy, but at least Disney uses good ingredients without the dreadful worry of MSG. Today we got to see beautiful parrots circling. So graceful and yet fast.

Oh my goodness that sounds incredibly beautiful! You are probably going to laugh at me and that is perfectly fine, I use to be terrified of birds! I am not even sure why, I have never been attacked or anything. I did have a peacock take my lunch when we were at a zoo, but that was my fault. The peacock came over to our table to visit I guess. When he jumped in the seat next to me, I got up and walked away. He was happy, he got a sandwich out of the deal!!
I am a little less afraid of them now though!!! I hope you have a great Friday!!!

I won’t laugh at you about the birds. Some people are afraid of clowns. Most of us fear something. I am not afraid of flying, but I am afraid of heights, as near a rail (thought not on a cruise ship). We are all human, complete with our own identities and individual traits. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for not laughing at me! I feel silly being scared of birds, I mean what could they possibly do to hurt us, besides peck our eyes out!! I am not afraid of flying or heights, I am terrified of falling, which is why I refuse to go on roller coasters!! My husband laughed at me because he had me go on this log ride. While just floating a long, I wanted to get off because I saw the fall we would be going down shortly. I was not able to just step off because he told me it was dangerous. They took a picture and my expression looked like I had almost died!! The falling sensation is the worst thing ever for me!!!

You and me both, and Ferris wheels are another. Thankfully there are plenty of fun things to do, and we have choices for about everyone.

Sounds like a lovely trip George. I have never been to any of the Disney Parks but hopefully… My sisters went to Disney Paris and yes it was expensive but they had such a great time.

Brigid, you just said the Magic Word: Paris. Yesterday we were talking about how much fun it would be to see Paris based from Disney. Maybe someday.

We were there for part of 1 day whilst on a cruise. We loved it. Sandy says the highlight of her travels is standing under the Eiffel Tower. (Mine is Westminster Abby.)

We did that. We had been warned that Americans were not treated well. Ha! We could not have been more warmly welcomed. It was great.

Life might be for a little cooler venues for the next few months. It was hot by afternoon! Yes, it was a good day out, thank you!

You know, this is the only park I haven’t been to down there.

Animal Kingdom has long been the forgotten park, loved by those of us who know it well. In recent years, Disney has added some things that detract from the nature part of the park. It has many attributes and many of us are finding that it might just well be our favorite.

Ohhh Animal Kingdom…I hear it calling my name! I would love to go there. Yeah the food may be pricey but at least it was good and you enjoyed it! I love seeing the world thru Disney’s eyes…their imagination is limitless and so very creative. So you picked the perfect day for the orchids…that pic is gorgeous. Good idea to go at night when it’s a bit cooler for you. Although in the summer it’s really not too much cooler…wait for Fall! 🙂

Our passes are not good in summer. We are blocked out the hottest part, and that is no loss. I’m working managing energy, so we might be able to go in the evening this fall.

Yeah I’ve been to Disney and Epcot in the summer…phew! I hope you are able to go in the evening this fall. 🙂

I didn’t even know Disney had an Animal Kingdom. Really. And your talk about food has me hungry as I am on my way right now to eat my breakfast (second one of the day!). I’m so glad you got out and had some fun, George. There is no better way to have fun then to be out in nature, IMO. Thank you for sharing with us your day!! 💚💚💚

Animal Kingdom is Disney’s largest park physically. Much of it is land on which the animals are free to roam. You don’t encounter animals, other than birds, unless you take the Kilimanjaro Safari ride or walk the two trails. Otherwise it is vegetation and an increasing number of small shops or places to eat!
It does have some rides. “I don’t do rides.” lol

Thanks. It is the one Orlando park that had trees and green space. It’s becoming my favorite.
